Gon (ゴン), by Masashi Tanaka, is a fun illustrated comic about a dinosaur and his adventures through the wilderness. With no dialog and text, this series is entirely about the drawings (my personal favorite kind of story). Gon is a curious dinosaur who runs into just about every kind of animal you can imagine, from bears and lynx to rabbits and ostriches. More than just a comic, Gon eventually spawned video games and anime.
This comic is great reference material because it features so many different animals in various poses and scenarios.
