Bonten Taro Assistant Anthology (2024)

During the height of gekiga, or illustrated short-stories of dramatic scenarios mainly aimed at adults, Bonten Taro became an underground favorite. Although his stories and artwork were not featured in the mainstream comic magazines that became very popular throughout the 60s, his works were appearing in some of the second-rate more graphic magazines. Some of these magazines came about simply because there was such a demand for the genre, and more violent and sexual stories could be published. 

This specific collection features a couple stories from Bonten Taro's assistants, who were trained and educated on how to produce these comics. The demand for his comics had reached such a capacity that he could establish his own publishing company with students. Appearing in magazines like Manga OK and Comic Ace, Bonten worked with these assistants after he had already established himself in the tattoo world.
