Originally published in 1939, Bunshin 100 Figures or 100 Literary Figures is a novelist look at Japanese and Western tattooing practices in the early 20th century. While plenty of text here by the author gives an impression of how people react to tattooing, there are plenty of pictures and illustrations to delight readers.
