While Japanese comics (manga) were getting increasingly more popular in the United States in the 1980s, one man in Hong Kong saw a way to do the very same with his Chinese comics (manhua). Tony Wong (Wong Yuk-long) had already established Jademan in the early 70s, and his titles like Oriental Heroes and Drunken Fist were wildly popular. In the mid 1980s, these comics were translated to English and published under the Jademan Comics imprint in the United States.
