Edgar Rice Burroughs was a prominent fiction writer around the turn of the century. Getting his start around 1911-1912, Tarzan became ERB's biggest breakout story, and its popularity has not waned much in the 100+ years since its inception. Shortly after the second war, Tarzan was seeing a new boom in popularity among magazines, books, moves and eventually a tv show in 1966.

Dell Comics started publishing the Tarzan series of comics in 1948 and it lasted until 1972. Early issues were ink and color covers and interior art, but very quickly the covers became photographed models. By the end of the 50s and into the 60s, painted covers made their way to the front of Dell's Tarzan series.

Painted cover art by George Wilson. Portrait of a dimetrodon by Jesse Marsh

Condition: Very Good (4-4.5 out of 10); cover wear. Interior discoloration. Overall wear, but good for 1961.
