Bonten Taro was a one-of-a-kind artist in Japan during the height of the Showa Period. A tattooer, comic book illustrator, painter, filmmaker and fashion designer. He tattooed celebrities like Charlie Sheen, and created iconic fashion pieces seen throughout Hollywood. His film scripts and movie credits include Sex and Fury, inspiring global masterpieces like Kill Bill.
During the height of his career, he illustrated stylish manga magazine covers and created stories that are truly timeless. Female Tattooist Ruri follows a female tattooer in a time when that was basically unheard of. Reprinted in 2018 by the Bonten Gekiga Kai family, this rare manga book collects the entire storyline.
In the 1990s, Bonten Taro establish a tattoo dojo where he continued teaching students to tattoo.
