Sexy sci-fi magazine Heavy Metal ruled the newsstands for more than four decades. The animated movie in the early 80s really cemented the publication as more than just another comic magazine, but a true collection of the best fantasy illustrations and one-off story panels. It just so happened to come out once a month.
