During the late 1970s and entire 1980s in Japan, shojo horror was emerging as a very popular genre for its teen girls demographic. While magazines like Halloween Monthly (月刊ハロウィン) were taking American and European horror movies, TV shows and comics and twisting them into their own stories, artists like Junji Ito, Kazuo Umezu, Miyuki Saga and Kanako Inuki were emerging as fan favorites. Horror Comics is an offshoot of Akita Shoten, publisher of popular magazines like Weekly and Monthly Shonen Champion and Young Champion.
Curse is a one-shot by Ayako Maemura. Although this type of style became very prominent during the Showa era, this manga was released in the first year of the Heisei period.
