Japan has a long history with the erotic arts, but no figure has been more influential than Seiu Ito. Born in 1882, Ito was strongly attracted to scenes of torture in the performing arts from an early age, and his colorful paintings and kinbaku artworks earned him jobs illustrating for newspapers, pre-war magazines and playhouses. While he certainly had a large body of work before the war started, post-war Japan saw a boom in new underground publications like Kitan Club and Fuzoku Soshi, which Ito produced numerous works.
This collection of works was put together by Atelier Third and released in 2024. Featuring completed, full-color paintings alongside rough sketches offers a new glimpse into the artist's methods.
