Japan in the 1970s was starting to see a growing interest in the tattoo arts, though it still remained quite an underground, taboo artform. A number of different books were published in the 70s that aimed at educating the public on the artistic merit of tattoos, changing the attitude towards something that was previously only seen as punishment for convicts and criminal organizations. Tattoo Exhibition is an all-encompassing look at tattoos, starting with some fantastic color photos of completed tattoo works, moving through traditional ukiyoe prints that feature tattoos, showing tattoos around the world and providing general information about tattooing.
