During the late 1970s and entire 1980s in Japan, shojo horror was emerging as a very popular genre for its teen girls demographic. While magazines like Halloween Monthly (月刊ハロウィン) were taking American and European horror movies, TV shows and comics and twisting them into their own stories, artists like Junji Ito, Kazuo Umezu, Miyuki Saga and Kanako Inuki were emerging as fan favorites. Hibari Hit Comics first published in the 1970s with the likes of artists such as Hideshin Hino and Norikazu Kawashima.
