It’s hard to believe we’re already at the third issue of Writers Block, but here we are. This one’s all about freights! And it certainly won’t be the last.
For decades now, freight train graffiti in the United States has been a way for artists to stay connected and be seen, whether they live in small, rural towns or big cities. For Atlanta writers specifically, freights are a large part of our background, given the city’s storied history with the commercial rail industry and the sheer amount of tracks. The sheer size, weight and noise associated with these steel giants will humble anyone. Add in the element of freight travel throughout North America, where tracks seem to weave in and out of just about every corner of the continent, and it’s easy to see why freight painting becomes so appealing.
I do hope you enjoy.
